Focus Group 6: Monitoring

Monitoring Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) is pivotal for structural integrity and resource efficiency. The industry faces challenges in standardising measurements for rebound and wastage, leading to uncertainties in the SCL process. The crucial question is whether to average rebound measurements across an entire excavation or individually record each vertical panel spraying.

In 2023, the EFNARC Focus Group 6, Monitoring, was established to tackle these issues. This initiative aims to introduce clear guidelines and structured training to improve consistency and accuracy in SCL monitoring.

Ongoing projects

Methods of measuring rebound: As its first directive, the group is developing guidelines to standardise rebound measurement techniques. This project is set to establish a benchmark for SCL monitoring, enhancing safety and efficiency in construction practices.

Future Plans

  • Provide guidelines and training on monitoring the sprayed concrete lining process for rebound and wastage.

  • Increase digitalization of rebound monitoring through scanning equipment data as it comes available.

  • Conduct practical training programs to demonstrate best practices in rebound measurement and monitoring.

  • Include rebound monitoring as part of the EFNARC Nozzleman Certification theory training and exam program.

Collaboration Opportunities

Specifiers and Consultants :

We work with Specifiers and consultants on rebound monitoring as part of the Sprayed Concrete process.

Sprayed Concrete Experts

We have industry experts to share actual rebound monitoring experiences through the EFNARC website.

Equipment Suppliers

Within EFNARC we are collaborating with equipment suppliers on the development of concrete flow measurement which in turn increases rebound measurement accuracy.

We are increasing partnerships with Contractors to encourage a quality mindset.

Global Alignment

We are committed to work with internationally recognized SCL platforms, and align the same global monitoring standards and practices.
