Focus Group 5: Testing Fire Protection Systems for Tunnels

Continued projects

Building upon the foundation of the published EFNARC Guideline, our primary objective is to thoroughly revise it. Our aim is to transform this guideline into a widely recognized Technical Testing Standard, eligible for certification by ISO17025 accredited laboratories.

Past accomplishments

In January 2006, the working group achieved a significant milestone with the publication of the EFNARC Guidelines for testing fire protection systems for tunnels. These comprehensive guidelines have since served as a foundational resource within the industry, providing crucial insights and methodologies for testing and ensuring the effectiveness of fire protection systems in tunnel constructions. This publication marked a pivotal moment in our commitment to enhancing safety and standards within tunnel engineering.

Future Plans

Our forthcoming objective is to elevate the existing EFNARC Guidelines to the status of a Test Standard. This upgrade signifies a commitment to further refining and standardizing testing methodologies for fire protection systems in tunnels. By doing so, we aim to establish a recognized industry benchmark that fosters consistency, reliability, and safety in tunnel construction practices.

Collaboration Opportunities

We invite experts to collaborate with us in advancing EFNARC standardization efforts, with the goal of facilitating efficient and dependable testing for passive fire protection systems in concrete linings. Your contribution can play a pivotal role in achieving this mission.
